Folly Beach Last Day

On our last day at Folly we packed up and said goodbye to our little cottage. We then headed into Charleston for a trip to the market and brunch.

Mom had never been to the market and it is definitely something you had to visit if you are in Charleston. She bought another Sweetgrass basket. It is beautiful but I do not have a picture of it. These baskets are really expensive but worth it because they are handmade. I love traditions and handing down those traditions in families and that is what Sweetgrass baskets are all about.

After shopping and walking around we were hungry so we decided on Poogan's Porch. Caleb and I had ate their at Christmas on our last trip to Charleston. Since we had Max and Lucy with us (our Yorkies) we loved that Poogan's is pet friendly. You can eat on the porch or the area in front of the house with your dogs. What a great place!!! We loved it! Poogan was the previous owner's dog and he is buried in the front yard thus giving the restaurant it's name.

Since it was brunch we all had breakfast except Caleb. He had a fried pork chop with Texas Pete au juis. It was amazing!

Then it was time to head home. I always hate leaving....

Folly Beach Day 7

Friday was our last day on the beach and it was another wonderful day! That night we took family pictures looking out at the Lighthouse on Morris Island. If you go to Folly you have to walk down there!

That night we ate at Rita's again. It was just too good the first time! :)

For an appetizer we had Fried Pickles.Gotta love the South! We will Fry anything!

Caleb had the same thing, the Blackened Tuna Nachos . I had the same Shrimp and Flounder. Mom and Dad had Grilled Marlin which I had never had but it was really good.

Folly Beach Day 5

Earlier this year I had won a gift card to Tristan which is the restaurant located in the same building as The French Quarter Inn which is the place we stay when we go to Charleston. I had always heard a lot about Tristan but to be honest it is one of those places that the food is more of an art and we are more about the food being just really, really good not so much about the look. Anyway, we were excited to try Tristan on our trip. It was definitely interesting.
Let me apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures. It was a really nice restaurant and I was trying to take the pictures with my phone without causing scene. :)
We ordered the special which was Vanilla Poached Lobster with a salad.

This was the chef's interpretation of a BLT. It was tiny but the burst of flavor was amazing.

Our Lobster... The first bite was amazing and after that I have to say I should have thought more about the vanilla part in the description. There were also these little orange jelly things that were supposed to be a burst of flavor and it definitely was but a little too much for me.
I just have to say that I am more of a Paula Deen kinda girl I like my Lobster with butter.
You really don't need anything else.
It was a great experience and the food was good but I think I will stick to my Southern Charleston Food from now on.

Folly Beach Day 3

Monday was Mom and Dad's Anniversary so for dinner we went to Charleston to my favorite place Amen Street. They have the very best Shrimp and Grits (in my opinion). I was just hoping they would like it as much as we do.

For an appetizer Caleb and I got Fried Green Tomatoes. Mom and Dad got She Crab soup. Both were so good!

Dad had the seafood platter and the corn that comes with it was amazing! Mom and I had the Shrimp and Grits, of course. :) Caleb had a Grilled Grouper dish. I cannot remember the exact name but it was really good too.

Not the best picture but you get the idea.

The bad part was that it was pouring outside. I'm talking a mini flood it seemed. I was so disappointed but we had planned to come back later in the week so that they could see Charleston.

Folly Beach Day 4

On Tuesday afternoon we took my parents over to Sullivan's Island and The Isle of Palms since they had never been here before. It is just so beautiful there.

That night we ate at Bowen's Island which has been featured on several television shows. It was originally a place that locals went but now everyone seems to know about it. We actually got there just in time because there was already a line but after us the line went out the door. It is one of those places that you stand in line and order and then you find a seat. They bring the food out to you but that is about it. We sat on the back deck and it was beautiful at sunset. If you go make sure you time it just right.

Mom and I had the Frogmore Stew, which we call a Low Country Boil. It's funny how names change based on the location. Dad and Caleb had the Fried Seafood platter. Everything was really good! If you are looking for fine dining this is not the place but if you like a beautiful natural setting a great fresh seafood then this is the place to try!

These little boogers were all over the place.

Folly Beach Day 6

On Thursday we finally got to show Mom and Dad around Charleston! It is such a beautiful place. I could spend hours just walking around. We were very lucky with the weather that day as it was cool sunny.
We spent some time walking around the residential area.

That night we ate at Fleet Landing. It was delicious as always!

For an appetizer Mom and Dad got the Stuffed Hush Puppies, these are my favorite! Caleb and I decided to try something new the Crispy Shrimp Spring Rolls, they were fabulous!

Caleb got the Oyster, Shrimp, and Flounder. Dad got Flounder and Shrimp and for a side he got the grits. Let me stop there because the grits were amazing!!! These were just plain grits but oh my goodness they were wonderful. I wish that I had ordered some too. Mom and I had the fried shrimp. I know I eat a lot of shrimp but you just can’t get shrimp like that at home and I have to get all I can while I am there. J

After dinner we walked around Charleston. Mom loved it! I knew she would. Caleb and I really enjoyed getting to show them around.  I say that like we are locals but it is one of our favorite places to visit! I could definitely live in Charleston or Folly!

Oh and our dessert was homemade Peach Ice Cream from the little candy place beside the Market. I don't have a picture of that but it was great! I have been craving it since!

Folly Beach Day 5 Cont.

After Dinner I did a quick change of clothes because I had also won a ticket to a Bulldog Tour and I had made reservations for Caleb and I to go on the Haunted Jail Tour. I never win anything and here I had won two things for this trip. I was excited!!!

We have been on other Haunted Tours but I will say this is the best one to date. We had a really good tour guide that was good at storytelling.

It was completely dark except for the guides flashlight so make sure you bring a camera with flash. The window above is the window where the people often report seeing a woman standing. The woman is the one and only Lavinia Fishe. She is reported to have said something like, ""If any of you has a message for the devil, tell me now-- for I will be seeing him soon".

Folly Beach Day 2

On Sunday we spent the day at the beach of course. We are the ones that are one the beach first thing in the morning and go in around 3 or 4. Our other vacations are spent exploring our beach vacation is just that spent on the beach.

That night we went to Rita's Caleb had the Blackened Tuna Nachos with a watermelon salsa. It was really good! Mom and I had Fried Flounder and Shrimp. Dad had a Steak which is totally against our rules because you have to eat seafood at the beach. But we let it slide this time and it was actually really good!

Rita's turned out to be one of our favorite places to eat and we ate there again at the end of the week. I would highly recommend it if you are ever on Folly.

Folly Beach, SC

Photobucket Photobucket
We just returned from one of the best family vacations that we have had in years!

We were looking for something different this year.... We all wanted a place that we could relax without all the rush and crowd. Folly was definitely a great place for that.

Our first day there we had a great lunch at Locklear's Restaurant on the pier. It was a great way to start our vacation. There was a perfect breeze and the food was great!

We started out with...

Crab Dip
Photobucket My favorite She Crab Soup Photobucket Caleb is always good about ordering something different. This was corn fritters with tomato jam. It was so good!  PhotobucketFor our meals Mom and I got Shrimp. Dad had Shrimp and Flounder. Caleb had BBQ Chicken and Shrimp. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket View from the Pier... We had a wonderful first day! After lunch we enjoyed the rest of the day on the beach. That afternoon Caleb and I rode our bicycles all over the island. One of my favorite parts was being able to ride my bicycle everywhere even to eat. I could get used to that! Plus great exercise!!! Which I needed after all the good food we had this week!

That night on our way home we stopped by Taco Boy and ordered tacos to go. We had Fried Fish Tacos, Grilled Fish Tacos, and Caleb ordered Kimchi Tacos. It was so good that I forgot to take pictures. :)
