Folly Beach, SC

Photobucket Photobucket
We just returned from one of the best family vacations that we have had in years!

We were looking for something different this year.... We all wanted a place that we could relax without all the rush and crowd. Folly was definitely a great place for that.

Our first day there we had a great lunch at Locklear's Restaurant on the pier. It was a great way to start our vacation. There was a perfect breeze and the food was great!

We started out with...

Crab Dip
Photobucket My favorite She Crab Soup Photobucket Caleb is always good about ordering something different. This was corn fritters with tomato jam. It was so good!  PhotobucketFor our meals Mom and I got Shrimp. Dad had Shrimp and Flounder. Caleb had BBQ Chicken and Shrimp. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket View from the Pier... We had a wonderful first day! After lunch we enjoyed the rest of the day on the beach. That afternoon Caleb and I rode our bicycles all over the island. One of my favorite parts was being able to ride my bicycle everywhere even to eat. I could get used to that! Plus great exercise!!! Which I needed after all the good food we had this week!

That night on our way home we stopped by Taco Boy and ordered tacos to go. We had Fried Fish Tacos, Grilled Fish Tacos, and Caleb ordered Kimchi Tacos. It was so good that I forgot to take pictures. :)

Savannah to Charleston and the places in between...

One of the things that we were excited about with this trip was that we would be able to visit those places in between Savannah and Charleston that we had always wanted to go. One place for me was Beaufort, SC. I, of course, had read about it in books and the wonderful magazine Southern Living. So that would be our first stop on our grand adventure...

I LOVE the blue ceilings! That is one of my favorite things in the Low Country.

Beaufort was BEAUTIFUL! Everything I thought it would be! I would definitely like to go back one day.

Caleb had really wanted to eat at this Gullah Restaurant but when we got there they were closed. The hours that were posted said they should have been opened but unfortunately they must have decided to close that day. We ended up eating lunch at this little place that many bloggers had recommended. It sounded good and they were known for their shrimp sandwiches which I had never had. Well, let's just say even with my love for shrimp that just did not hit the spot. Looking back I think we did amazingly well that this is the only place we ate that we were not crazy about.

Savannah, Georgia Dinner

We had a wonderful dinner at Huey's on River Street. We had thought about eating at Paula Deen's Restaurant again but it was closed for their Christmas Party. We had been to Huey's Restaurant the last time we were in Savannah and it was really good so we decided to try it again.

I had Shrimp and Grits. It was great!

Caleb had the Pasta Jambalaya. He loved it! I, of course, had to taste of it again too and it was delicious!

Our last dinner in Savannah was wonderful! I would definitely recommend Huey's to anyone visiting Savannah!

Savannah, Georgia - Sunday

On Sunday we woke up early to continue exploring around Savannah. It was another beautiful day. I could just walk around forever looking at all the amazing houses. We had lunch at the Pirate House. It was really good! Everyone had said that we should eat there on our last visit but we never did. Caleb had the lunch buffet and I had a She Crab Soup, salad, and sandwich which ended up being way too much. I could have just ordered a bowl of the She Crab Soup and been satisfied! It was absolutely delicious!

That afternoon we rode out to Tybee and stopped back by Bonaventure Cemetary. I know for some people cemetaries are creepy unless you have a loved one there but Bonaventure is different than any other cemetary that I have ever visited. It's very peaceful and beautiful. It also holds this mysterious vibe.

This is cottage that Mary Kay Andrews owns on Tybee. She is one of my favorite authors. Such a cute little house!

That afternoon we walked back through some of the squares. We stopped back by The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist. When we walked in the door there was the most beautiful sound. The choir was practicing for their Christmas service in the balcony. It was amazing and one of the highlights of our trip. Caleb and I just sat and listened through several songs.

Savannah, Georgia Dinner.

On our first night there we ate at our favorite place in Savannah, Uncle Bubba's! I have been craving the keylime pie since we were there two years ago. We started out with the best little corn muffins with honey butter! They are so good! We were boring at this meal because we loved our last meal here so much we got the same thing that we had before, Low Country Boil. It is delicious! There is just something about those Georgia Shrimp. Yum!

Dessert was... oh you guessed it the wonderful, fabulous, extraordinary keylime pie!

Ok I could totally drive all the way back down there right now for another slice of this little piece of heaven!

If you are ever in Savannah you should definitely check it out!

Savannah, Georgia Day 1 Continued

I am so sorry that this had been delayed for this long. I am having a horrible time getting pictures to load on my blog without having lines all over them. And as you know you have to include pictures with every blog post! I am trying one of the Blogger suggestions of using Internet Explorer rather than Chrome which to me is interesting because they are both a part of Google. Oh well. I hope that I am back for good now! I have missed my time on here.

After lunch we continued to explore the historic squares. I of course had to stop and take hundreds of pictures. We walked back to Forsyth Park. Oh how I wish we had something even remotely like this at home. It is such a relaxing place. We saw people studying, just hanging out, taking a nap, playing with their kids, etc. It is just a great (huge) place for anybody to come and just enjoy being outside. The fountain itself is just beautiful. The last time we were here they were setting up for a wedding in front of the fountain.

Savannah is such a beautiful place. We walked all day around exploring all day and I loved every minute of it. I could do this everyday. I honestly think you could walk around here everyday and find something new.

Savannah, Georgia Day 1

This year we decided to go on our Anniversary trip in December rather than October. We went on our one year anniversary to Savannah, Georgia and our second year anniversary to Charleston, South Carolina. We absolutely love both places. Most people like one place better than the other but I love the charm of both places.

We had never been to either place at Christmas and looked forward to seeing both places decorated.

On our first day in Savannah we set out to explore the many squares and the rest of the beautiful historic district. I can say that going this time of year was much more comfortable than our first trip in October. The temperatures were perfect and much less humidity. If you go to Savannah and plan on exploring, as we always do, you must bring some good walking shoes.

We had lunch at one of our favorite places from the last time we were in Savannah, SOHO.

I had the Fiesta Chicken Salad and it was so good! This is what a salad is supposed to be like!

Caleb had the chicken salad sandwich. It was really good!

Dad's Birthday

Finally.... I just turned in my last last assignment for this semester. Now to enjoy the most wonderful time of year.  I have some catching up to do first.
We celebrated Dad's birthday in Dahlonega. We ate at the Porter House. One of our favorite restaurants in our area. The greatest thing was that they had already decorated the Dahlonega Square. If you have never visited Dahlonega at Christmas you are missing out! It's beautiful!

Fall Has Arrived...

Wow... these past two month have been crazy busy around our house. I love this time of year and I would really like for everything to slow down just a bit so that I could take some time to enjoy it a little more. I know we all wish that at times. Well, last weekend we took a timeout day. We went with my parents to Gold Rush in Dahlonega, GA. We normally go on Saturday but this year we went early on Sunday. I know we were bad a skipped church but Caleb was called into work on Saturday and we had to postpone for one day. We got there around 9:30 am on Sunday and I was glad because we got there before most of the crowd. By the 11am it was packed. They had some really cute stuff.

Anyhow, we had a great time just walking around and being outside on that beautiful day! After we left Dahlonega we rode toward Ellijay which is know for their apple orchards. On the way there we stopped by Burt's Pumpkin Farm. If you live around here you know Burt's is famous! :) It was packed too but fun to walk through and take some pictures. They have all different types of pumpkins all shapes and sizes.

In Ellijay we stopped at Hillcrest Orchard and the most wonderful Apple Fritter with Apple Ice cream on top!!! It was DELICIOUS!!! I was actually just thinking of it again this afternoon and wondering just how bad it would be to drive all that way just one more time this week! Haha!

Sorry we had to have a bite before I remembered that we had not got a picture. :)

After that we drove back across the mountain you know over the river and through the woods. :) The trees were beautiful this weekend! Being out on a day like that just reminds me of all we have to be thankful for. God has definitely painted the most beautiful picture for us to enjoy!

Well this weekend we are not sure what we will do but definitely something fall related as I am determined to have at least a half a day with no school work for either of us! We need that time to relax. Hope you are all enjoying this fall weather!

What have you been up to? Any fall festivals or new creations?
